Cuttack (Orissa): The Orissa High Court on Thursday directed the state govt to immediately take appropriate action in the riot hit ares to bring life in normal condition and deploy more forces to protect the rights and properties of the people.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B S Chauhan and Justice B N Mohapatra gave the directive to restore peace and normalcy in the district, where violence takes places with the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati.
"Take measures to restore peace in the area immediately by deploying adequate forces," the bench observed on Wednesday while adjudicating a PIL filed by Ambedkar-Lohia Vichar Manch chief Sangram Mallick.
With this order further stated that, in the riot hit areas of Kandhamal the local people belong to minority community were homeless and fled to jungle with their children. The petitioner alleged that the activist targeted the women and children of the poor class community.
“To restore peace and normalcy in the region the intervention of the high court is needed” said by the petitioner. The basic human rights of the human being in this area are collapsed and the state govt is paralysed within the hands of this activist.
During the hearing, the state government counsel informed the court that the government was aware of the situation, adding that appropriate measures were being taken by the government to restore normalcy and peace in the area.
"The government is committed to protect the life and property of all sections of the people," the counsel said.
