Malkangiri: Orissa Diary.com: Utter disregard for the public safety and apathy to the public needs mark the immediate commencement of the Malkangiri-Motu road (State Highway-25) for which Pune based Patil Construction and Infrastructure Private Ltd  has been entered into an agreement with the Malkangiri Roads & Building Division of Government of Orissa vide the No.LWE-02-2010-11.

As the unattended potholes agonize the commuters, recent rains have only added to their misery breaking the back of the road users besides putting them in peril. With hundreds of potholes on the road passing through the heart of the Malkangiri town, it has degenerated into what many commuters now call a death trap.

Orissa: Malkangiri Road turns into death trap

Hundreds of vehicles, plying everyday on this road which connects Jeypur-Motu, are finding it difficult to travel on the pothole-filled road. Thanks to the Roads & Building Division for not even taking up the patchwork on the road for the past several months.

The information provided by none other than the Malkangiri Roads & Building( R & B) Division to this reporter under Right to Information (RTI) Act reveals that the construction of the said road work under Left-wing Extremists Affected area Scheme has been tendered in favour of Pune based Patil Construction and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd more than six months back.

Surprisingly, the said company has also been paid a mobilization advance of Rs.6,23, 84,892/- by the R & B Division months back. The construction work was about to be started on the stipulated date of commencement on December 08,2010 and to be over on the stipulated date of completion on June 07,2013, but the construction work is yet to be commenced, the information under RTI reveals.

But, the paramount enigma at the moment is why the administration is not taking action as deemed fit against the company for the bizarre delay in the commencement of the work. Contacted, R & B Division SDO Ashok Dash told to this paper that the officials of the company were warned by the Collector for the delay in the work and asked the company to start the construction work latest by May 21, but  to no affect.Even, the Collector warned the officials of facing stern action if the construction work is further delayed.

When contacted, one Engineer Gajanan who is working for the company took the matter lightly and told this reporter that we are loss bothered about what the Collector told. Our people are fearing to go to the area and we would act on our own rule. When asked about the stipulated date of commencement of 08.12.2010 as provided in the information under RTI, he said we are less concerned adding the stipulated date of completion is 07.06.2013.

Mean while, the intelligentsia has sought the immediate intervention of the government into the matter to ensure the commencement of the construction work without further delay.
