Bhubaneswar: He has no magic ward or power. He deems his own strengthen and work on it to get success. Few such men could found like Dr Jatish Chandra Mohanty, a 1979 Andhra Pradesh cadre Oriya Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS), who quit Civil Service and floated a new political party naming it as Samruddha Odisha.

He had served various important offices of Andhra Pradesh Government and he played a key role in building Hyderabad as Cyber City. He has also received the Takemi Fellowship on International Health, Harvard School of Public Heath, USA in 1996.

In an Exclusive Interview with Odishatoday.com's Anurjay Dhal Dr Mohanty outlined his detail plan for a prosperous Orissa. For him, nothing is impossible, if anyone has the passion for service to Orissa and its people.

Here are the excerpts of the interview.

Odishatoday.com: Dr Mohanty, you had a long successful IAS story. You had quit IAS when you were at the helm of affair. Why so?

Jatish Mohanty: I was overwhelmed with the sad plight of our poor brothers and sisters of Orissa. Rampant poverty (Then 47.15% of our population were below poverty line) and very poor ranking in almost all socio-economic indicators among the Indian States in spite of huge natural and human resources made me feel that something is seriously lacking in the state.

From my experience and exposure in Andhra Pradesh I genuinely realized that given focussed vision and serious commitment it would be possible to eradicate poverty from Orissa. Some body has to bail the cat. I did so by taking voluntary retirement from IAS 7 years ahead of my superannuation.

Odishatoday.com: So What's your plan for Orissa?

Jatish Mohanty: My first priority is to eradicate poverty from Orissa. This can be achieved by initially concentrating on development of agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, animal husbandry, pisciculture, forestry and related cottage and small scale industry. Our ultimate aim is to steer the Orissa to glory in all spheres.

Odishatoday.com: You have already floated a political party "Samrudha Odisha". What is peoples' response to it?

Jatish Mohanty: On interaction with people across the state and all sectors, we realized that our dream of seeing a poverty-free Orissa is possible only when one has political power in hand. Thus a new political party was born in 2007 i.e. "Samruddha Odisha".

The party will field 147 honest, efficient and empathetic candidates during the next general election, will the election handsomely, form the government and eradicate poverty in 5 years time. If the party fails, it shall not contest the next election (2013 or 14).

Odishatoday.com: What is your party's future plan?

Jatish Mohanty: To contest all 147 seats in 2008/2009 general election, win absolute majority, make Orissa free of poverty, unemployment and hunger in 5 years time. By 2020, our aim is to place Orissa among the top 5 states in the country.

Odishatoday.com: What would be your party's election manifesto?

Jatish Mohanty: Selfless service and eradicate poverty from Orissa in five years.

Odishatoday.com: What is your dream for Orissa

Jatish Mohanty: A happy, peaceful, and wealthy in finances, culture, education and healthy Orissa.

Odishatoday.com: At last what do you feel about Orissa Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik?

Jatish Mohanty: The Hon'ble Chief Minister lost a golden opportunity to leave an indelible mark in all spheres of development.

Odishatoday.com: Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with us. We wish you all the best to both you and your party.

Jatish Mohanty: Many thanks to Odishatoday.com. I wish this News Website scale new heights in the days to come.
