Mining Scam : Shah Commission visits illegal mining areas in Keonjhar, express displeasure

Keonjhar (Odisha) : The Shah Commission led by former Supreme Court judge Justice M B Shah visited at least four major iron ore and manganese mines in Joda mining circle of Keonjhar district on the second day of its visit on Friday.

Justice Shah accompanied by other commission members and state government officials first visited four iron ore and manganese mines owned by M/S Indrani Patnaik , Patnaik Mineral Private Limited, S R Rungta Pvt. Limited and Mala Ray Company.

According to the PTI reports Justice Shah expressed his displeasure over mining of excess areas at Uchhabali iron ore mines owned by M/S Indrani Patnaik, he found no boundary pillar at Patnaik Mineral Pvt Limited's mines.

Similarly, Justice Shah directed the district collector of Keonjhar district to immediately issue notice to S R Rungta Pvt. Limited which undertook excess excavation not in accordance with the mining plan.

The members also verified documents at Rungta's office to ascertain whether the mined minerals were used in the company's plant or exported.

Besides, the commission members also hold discussion with the local forest department and mines department officials.
