IGH doctors successfully remove 2 inch pin from child's throat

Rourkela: The doctors and staff at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here have saved the life of a child by removing a two-inch pin which the child who had swallowed. .

The one-and-half year old boy identified as M Yasobant Dora from Purunabasti, Jharsuguda, had sallowed a 2 inch long pin on January 30.

As the child's father had gone to Andhra Pradesh, his mother Mohini Dora took her to different hospitals and medical colleges for removal of the pin and treatment. Finally the child was brought to IGH yesterday

Sidesh Mishra, Joint Director (ENT) conducted the operation through bronchoscopy under general anesthesia and took out the pin successfully with the help of a team of doctors from departments of Anesthesia and ENT.

The child is stable and recovering well, they said.

A similar operation was successfully carried out by S C Mishra and his team on another child, a 10 year old girl Roshini Parbin of Haldia, Thakurpatna of Kendrapara District on February 6.

This girl too was in distress after swallowing a pin and brought to IGH after suffering for 5 days and going to doctors of Kendrapara and Cuttack.
