Cuttack: After day long presentation either in office or in classes, many young turks in cuttack always try out one way or other to relax themselves by meeting friend during "Khatti".

Cuttack is also famous for its so called Khatti Culture like that of silver filigree works.

Are you getting tuff time to know what this "Khatti" is all about? I think more or less every one may aware of this "Khatti" word. After the day's hectic schedule everyone irrespective of all age, boys between the age group of fourteen and forty in Cuttack come for a get-together during the evening time, which is known as 'Khatti' in the Local language.

Like many other Shakti Ranjan, a MBA Student from Cuttack always tries to find out one or two hours from his hectic schedule to meet his friends.

In Cuttack one can easily identify these Khatti in almost everywhere. But the area like Jobra barrage, Ravenshaw college campus, Gadgadia Ghat, Khannagar Park, Bali-yatra field, deer park and ring road area are always being the favorite places for Khatti.

Khatti normaly starts from evening and continues up to 11 p.m. Khatti provides lots of gossip, entertainment and fun with information too.

Everyone is eager to know about others and what is happening around them and these Khatti are the major areas from where you can get all information starting from yours neighborhood girls to Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and from College lecturer to Pervez Musharraf.

Kundan Singh who has his own business says, "occasionally I come to Khatti whenever I feel lonely and need some one to share my emotion, then I move towards my Khatti". But, his friend Prasant doesn't have any specific reason to join "Khatti". He just loves to spend some good time with his friends and pulls leg of others.

Khatti is not only for the young generation, elderly people have also there own Khatti. In any temple compound you can find number of elderly persons play cards and share their views in the day to day affairs in the said Khatti too.

This Khatti also brings some business opportunity for the local roadside vendors. According to Babuli, who has a tea shop near Gadagadia Ghat says, "everyday I sell more than 100 cups of tea or coffee and around 200 pan, gutkha and Cigarettes. Near to these Khatti area numbers of shops like Pan Shop, Tea or coffee café, and many road-side junk foods shop coming up as these places are hot place to do good business.

However when , the gen X enjoy at Khatti, the old generation have different views on the so called famous " Khatti" culture in Cuttack.

"In our days we used to go our local club for any indoor games or get-together for our relaxation. But, today the present generation has developed this Khatti Culture. Some youngsters are also misguided and addicted with cigarettes, gutkha and even alcohol by going to these Khatti which is not good for our society," said Subash Mitra, father of two College-going students.

The Khatti culture is a new creation of both gen-X and elderly people. It seems everyone enjoys this "Khatti" time in Cuttack. The "Khatti" is spreading its wing to other areas of the State too. Whatsoever this khatti culture boon to many people and adding a colourful flavour to the composite "KOTOKI culture.
