Plan panel approves rs 1392.327 cr for  Gopalpur-Rayagada railway link in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to increase Railway network in Odisha, the Planning Commission has approved Rs 1392.327 crore for the proposed Gopalpur-Rayagada railway line in Odisha. 

According to former union minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu, the transport division of the central Planning Commission has communicated in this regard to the Railway Ministry. 
 
The proposed Gopalpur-Rayagada rail line would link the southern districts of  Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada would facilitate the industrial growth augmenting the transportation facilities through the Gopalpur port located in the district of Ganjam. 
 
The proposed rail line between coastal town of Gopalpur and the southern district headquarter town of Rayagada would be around 258 KM. 
 
The Rail line would initially start from the Gopalpur port and then it would extend up to the coastal town of Gopalpur. Possibly, the platform of this railway would be constructed by the sea coast.  
 
It may be recalled that the then union minister of state for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Sahu had laid the foundation stone for the survey work of the proposed Gopalpur-Rayagada rail line in Feb 2009.
