Odisha cop shoots himself with service revolver in Berhampur

Berhampur: An assistant sub-inspector of Odisha police posted in Chandili polise station in Rayagada district,  locked himself in a hotel room and shot himself dead with his service revolver, in Berhampur  police said on Monday.

The ASI identified as RP Sethi,  had checked into the hotel on Thursday and his room was found locked from inside since Saturday evening, inspector-in-charge of town police station SS Mohapatra said.

Manager of the hotel informed the police yesterday after a foul smell began coming out from the room, he said.

When the door was broken open the ASI was found dead with gunshot wounds believed to have been inflicted with his service revolver, he said.

Mohapatra said that the ASI might have killed self on Saturday night.

The Rayagada police have been contacted for the investigation.
