Bhubaneswar:  Odisha government has sought intervention of Medical Council of India (MCI) into admission of 100 students at Kalinga Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) which is denied permission for taking under-graduate students for 2012-13, official sources said today.

"The state government wants to make it clear that they would not be the party to the unplesant situation. If MCI disallows the admission in future course of action, the resposibility of 100 admitted students cannot be taken by the state government," Health and Family Welfare Secretary P K Mohapatra said in a letter to MCI Chairman K K Talwar.

Mohapatra said KIMS had not been permitted by the Board of Governors of MCI to admit under-graduate students for 2012-13 and 2013-14 following some adverse remarks by CBI.

But, Mohapatra said, KIMS had admitted 100 students for MBBS course for 2012-13. "They (KIMS) have gone to the court after denial of permission by MCI and Orissa High Court has directed the MCI to consider their case," Mohapatra said in the letter.

"But before MCI could respond the order of the High Court, KIMS has suo motu admitted 100 UG students," he said in the letter adding that the state government would request the MCI to take immediate steps for the future of the 100 admitted students.

KIMS authorities was not available for comment immediately.
