Farmer’s body found

Rourkela: The body of a 55-year-old farmer, who was swept away while crossing a swollen nullah in Sundargarh district two days ago, was recovered on Monday.The deceased, Amulya Sahu of Kansar village under Gurundia police station limits in Bonai subdivision, was returning home from his farmland on Saturday evening when he was swept away by the strong current of the overflowing Kharla nullah.When Sahu did not return home, his family members started looking for him but could not trace him. A missing complaint was lodged at Gurundia police station on Sunday, following which police alerted the fire services department. The fire service personnel from Gurundia began a search operation on Monday morning in the presence of police officials. After nearly six hours of search, they recovered Sahu’s body from another major nullah, around 4km downstream from the spot where he was swept away.Police seized the body and sent it for postmortem examination.“The body will be handed over to the family after the formalities are completed,” S K Behera, assistant sub-inspector of police at Gurundia police station, said.
