Apple has launched iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, bringing a new design to the iPhone lineup. The iPhone Duo opens to reveal a 7.6-inch inner display and folds down to a 5.4-inch outer display for regular use. Apple says iPhone Duo is built with a titanium frame, a new hinge, dual batteries and the A20 Pro chip. The new smartphone also brings changes to the camera, iOS 27, multitasking and Apple Intelligence. Price of Apple iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for the 256GB model with pre-orders beginning on October 16. Apple iPhone Duo will go on sale starting October 23. 1. Apple iPhone Duo display: 7.6-inch foldable screen
The biggest change is the foldable screen. When opened, the iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display. Apple says the inner screen is 50 percent larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. It has a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections. The inner display also supports ProMotion, Always On and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.When folded, users get a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display. Apple says it provides 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.
2. Apple iPhone Duo design: Titanium body and new hinge
Apple has used grade 5 titanium for the iPhone Duo enclosure. The phone also has a new hinge made from more than 100 components. The company says the hinge controls the opening and closing of the phone and supports the centre of the folding display.The inner screen uses a scratch-resistant coating, a nano-textured cover layer and high-strength glass. Apple has also used custom adhesives and a titanium plate below the folding display. Apple iPhone Duo has an IP68 rating, and is splash, water and dust resistant.
3. Apple iPhone Duo processor: A20 Pro chip and performance
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple says the chip is built using 2nm process technology and has a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU. According to Apple, the CPU is up to 20 percent faster than the A19 Pro, while the GPU is up to 40 percent faster and more power efficient.The chip also has a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, which Apple says provides twice the compute power for on-device AI models.
4. Apple iPhone Duo battery: Dual-battery setup and charging
The foldable iPhone uses one battery on each side of the device. Apple says its silicon and energy-management system allow the two batteries to work together as one. The company claims up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display.When both displays are used equally, Apple says the phone can provide up to 24 hours of usage per charge. The phone can charge up to 50 percent in about 20 minutes. Wireless charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes using a MagSafe or Qi2 charger.

The iPhone Duo comes with a 48MP Fusion Main camera. Apple says it can capture photos at up to 48MP and has an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto option. Apple has added camera features that use the two displays. Smart Take uses on-device AI models to analyse a scene and automatically capture a photo when people are ready. With Duo Preview, people being photographed can see the live camera preview on the outer display. This can help them check their framing and pose.The phone also allows users to take selfies using the higher-resolution rear cameras while viewing the shot on the outer screen. Another feature called Duo FaceTime allows people around the phone to join a video call using the outer display. The iPhone Duo supports 4K video recording at 120fps in Dolby Vision using its 48MP Fusion Main camera. Apple says users can use this for slow-motion video. The phone also supports Cinematic effects after recording at up to 60fps. Its Audio Mix feature uses new algorithms to improve voices and separate music. Additinlly, time-lapse recording is also supported in 4K Dolby Vision HDR.
8. Apple iPhone Duo software: iOS 27 and split-screen multitasking
Apple has changed iOS 27 for the foldable display. When the phone is open, users can access two Home Screen pages and Today View. The system also moves some controls to the side to make more room for content. The iPhone Duo also supports Split View, allowing two apps to run side by side for the first time on an iPhone.Users can also open two windows from the same app, such as Safari, and save pairs of apps for later use. Apple says apps including Netflix, Zoom and Slack have already been adapted for the foldable design.

The iPhone Duo supports Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI. Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27. Apple says it can use personal context from areas such as messages, emails and photos. The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID in the side button for authentication. This means the foldable iPhone does not use Face ID for unlocking. Apple says users can also unlock the iPhone Duo using a supported Apple Watch.The phone has Camera Control, which can launch the camera and also supports a new Siri Camera mode. Apple says Siri Camera can use what the camera sees to answer questions and take actions.
