DHENKANAL: Police on Tuesday detained two persons for allegedly harassing a young tourist couple on their way to the hill shrine of Kapilash in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, an official said.Police registered a case and detained the two accused after taking cognisance of a video that was widely shared on social media, news agency PTI reported.Sources said the incident took place on an isolated stretch of the road leading to the famous Shiva temple atop the lush green Kapilash hills.The video purportedly showed a group of people intercepting the bike-borne couple and assaulting the man, while the woman was heard shouting for help, PTI reported.Police took cognisance of the video and initiated action against those allegedly involved. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify the roles of others, if any.The Dhenkanal incident comes a day after a similar case in Bihar’s Jamui, where a video of the alleged harassment of two Class 10 students triggered police action.In Jamui, the girl and a male friend were allegedly stopped by a group of youths while returning from Marwa Pahad on September 19.Videos of the incident later surfaced on social media, purportedly showing the girl being surrounded, subjected to inappropriate physical contact and dragged on the road.Police subsequently identified around seven people allegedly involved and initially arrested three after videos of the same went viral on social media.The investigation later led to six arrests. The main accused, Nandan Yadav, was subsequently injured in a police encounter while police were attempting to apprehend him near the spot where the students were allegedly stopped.In the Dhenkanal case too, the video circulating on social media has prompted police to take cognisance of the alleged incident and act against the accused.Police are continuing their investigation into the Dhenkanal incident.(With agency inputs)
