Bhubaneswar can become India’s cleanest city: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Calling for greater public participation in maintaining urban cleanliness, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said Bhubaneswar has the potential to emerge as the cleanest city in the country if citizens collectively fulfil their responsibilities.Addressing the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ cleanliness campaign organised by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Khandagiri, Majhi said the city is currently ranked ninth in the national cleanliness survey and can move to the top position through sustained public involvement.“The city belongs to all of us, and keeping it clean is a shared responsibility. If every citizen performs their duty sincerely, Bhubaneswar can become the cleanest and most beautiful city in the country,” Majhi said.The chief minister urged residents to go beyond maintaining cleanliness within their homes and extend the same commitment to roads, public spaces and residential colonies. He stressed the importance of source-level segregation of wet and dry waste, timely disposal of household garbage through authorised collection vehicles and preventing littering in public places.Describing the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ drive as an innovative initiative, Majhi said it would help strengthen community participation in cleanliness efforts and promote behavioural change among citizens.The chief minister also lauded sanitation workers for their contribution to improving the city’s cleanliness standards. He said the state govt is committed to ensuring social security measures and housing support for sanitation workers.
