CM approves Rs 100cr more for key ABADHA projects in Puri

Bhubaneswar: The state govt on Thursday approved an additional Rs 100.83 crore for key infrastructure projects being implemented in Puri under Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme, pushing up the total project cost to Rs 658.03 crore this fiscal. The enhanced allocation will support ongoing development of Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre (JBPC), market complex, Shree Setu and Musa river expansion project, officials said.According to the chief minister’s office (CMO), the projects were earlier sanctioned at Rs 557.19 crore. However, additional works and project-related requirements necessitated a revision in the cost estimate.“The state govt would spare no effort in developing Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath. Whatever funds are required for development of Mahaprabhu’s dham will be provided. There will be no shortage of resources for this purpose,” said chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi.A major component of the revised plan is the construction of a 2,000-seat multipurpose hall on the fifth floor of Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre, aimed at enhancing facilities for pilgrims and visitors. Officials said additional funds would also be utilised to meet other emerging requirements linked to projects.ABADHA scheme, launched in 2017-18, is one of the state’s flagship initiatives to transform Puri into a world-class heritage and pilgrimage destination. The programme envisaged major investments in civic infrastructure, heritage conservation, tourism facilities and urban renewal. The state cabinet had a cost outlay of Rs 4,224.22 crore with a scheme implementation period from 2017-18 to 2024-25.Several high-profile projects have been taken up under the scheme over the years, including Shree Jagannath Parikrama Marg, Shree Setu, Musa river rejuvenation, Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre, housing projects, Puri lake development, redevelopment of Acharya Harihar square, Atharnala heritage project, upgrade of Raghunandan library, development of heritage water bodies and conservation of religious institutions and mutts.
