Bhubaneswar: A 35-year-old man allegedly murdered his brother-in-law following a heated argument over his wife’s suspected extramarital affair and later attempted to disguise the crime as a railway accident in VSS Nagar area early on Saturday. The accused has been arrested.Police said the accused, Suresh Singh, from Nepal, was residing in Tarini Basti under Saheed Nagar police limits and allegedly attacked Pathani Sahu (32) with a stone, causing fatal injuries.According to police, Suresh had been suspecting his wife, a native of Ganjam district, of having an extramarital relationship for several days. The suspicion had reportedly led to frequent domestic disputes and alleged physical assault, following which his wife returned to her parental home.Pathani, the woman’s brother who was staying in VSS Nagar, had reportedly been trying to mediate and resolve the marital discord between the couple.DCP Sarvana Vivek said the incident occurred when Suresh, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, raised allegations about his wife’s character in front of Pathani. “Pathani countered that Suresh’s drinking habit had forced his sister to leave him. This enraged the accused, who then attacked him with a stone,” the DCP said. Police are examining the circumstances leading to the crime as well as the accused’s actions after the killing.
