Bhanjanagar, (Arakhita Parichha) – April 22, 2025: In a significant development in local law enforcement, two individuals were apprehended by police in Bhanjanagar as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal arms possession. Surjya Pradhan, son of Arakhita Pradhan from Landeisahi village, and Sanu Naik, son of Ramesh Naik, also known as Chaila Naik, from Bahbideipur, Saranakula in Nayagarh district, were arrested under Bhanjanagar PS Case No. 429, dated April 22, 2025. The charges include section 308(3) and 3(5) of the Bihar Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (BNS), along with violations under the Arms Act, specifically sections 25(1-B)(a) and 27.
The arrest comes after law enforcement officials executed a search operation in the area, leading to the discovery of a 9 mm pistol, two live 9 mm rounds of ammunition, and a firearm magazine, alongside a Jupiter scotty vehicle, allegedly used for transportation. The police have indicated that the suspects may be linked to a larger network involved in the illegal arms trade in the region.
IIC Bhanjanagar, Ganjam, Jibanananada Jena commented on the operation: “Our department is committed to curbing the illegal arms trade that poses a significant threat to public safety. The arrests of these individuals underscore our relentless efforts to rid our communities of such dangers.” He further emphasized that investigations will continue to ascertain if the suspects are connected to any criminal enterprises or larger syndicates.
While some may argue that strict enforcement of arms regulations could lead to unintended consequences, law enforcement officials maintain that the risks associated with unregulated firearms far outweigh the concerns. Experts agree that illegal arms possession not only compromises community safety but also perpetuates a cycle of violence.
As part of the legal process, Surjya Pradhan and Sanu Naik will be presented before the learned court today, where further proceedings will determine the outcome of their case. The authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding this incident or knowledge about illegal arms activities to come forward, ensuring community collaboration in addressing such serious crimes.
In conclusion, the arrest of Pradhan and Naik serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal firearms and the broader implications for community safety. As investigations unfold, it remains imperative for law enforcement, local governments, and citizens alike to work together in fostering a secure environment free from the threats posed by illicit arms. The case is set to unfold in the coming days, with many eyes watching for developments as the court processes begin.
