
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the results of the Class 12 board examination for the academic year 2024–25, much to the relief and jubilation of over 16.9 lakh students across the country. The overall result this year is 88.39%, which is an improvement of 0.41% than the 87.98% scored last year.Over 17 lakh students registered for the examination, and 16.92 lakh appeared in it, with 14.96 lakh passing.”Honestly, I was not expecting such a high percentage,” said Ritika Jain, a commerce student from Delhi West, who secured 94.6%. “The paper pattern this year was more demanding, especially economics, but I prioritized conceptual clarity over other things.
“Girls Continue to Outperform BoysOnce again, girls far outshined boys. For girls the pass percentage was at 91.52%, while for boys (85.12%). The performance remained stellar for the Children with Special Needs (CWSN) category (93.15%), which is a testament to inclusive progress in India’s educational landscape.Regional Performance: South India Comes Out on TopThe Vijayawada region ranked first with a pass percentage of 99.60%. followed by Trivandrum (99.32%) and Chennai (97.39%) in second and third place respectively. Major metros like Delhi West (95.37%), Delhi East (95.06%), and Bengaluru (95.95%) are also among the high-performing regions.At the other end of the spectrum, Prayagraj posted the lowest pass percentage at 79.53%, followed by Noida (81.29%), and Bhopal (82.46%).
Bhubaneswar’s Performance: Moderate but PromisingThe Bhubaneswar region, covering Odisha, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh, reported a pass percentage of 83.64%. Gender-wise, girls achieved 86.30%, while boys stood at 81.42%, a gap of nearly 5 percentage points favoring girls.“I feel relieved and proud. Two years of hard work paid off,” said Shrishti Sahu, a student from Bhubaneswar who secured 95.4% in the science stream. “The support from my teachers and the consistent revision schedule helped a lot. One should do consistent revision and not leave studies for long period of time.”Institution-Wise Results: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas DominateIn terms of institutions, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) led the way with a 99.29% pass rate, followed closely by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) at 99.05%, and government-aided schools at 91.57%. Independent schools, which constitute a significant portion of CBSE affiliations, recorded 87.94%.
