Bhubaneswar: Abiding by Orissa high court direction, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) authorities will jointly measure the height of the high-rise built along the airport’s funnel path within Aug 20.The alleged raising of height beyond permissible limit would be measured in the developer’s presence. The HC had given a week’s time to measure the building while issuing the order.“The physical verification shall be conducted in the presence of the petitioner or its duly authorised representative and representatives of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and Airports Authority of India. In conducting the physical verification, the authorities shall strictly adhere to the procedure prescribed under the Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions caused by Buildings and Trees etc.) Rules, 2026, particularly Rules 4, 5 and 6,” the HC order read.BMC sources said their representatives and that of the airport’s would remain present for measurement of the structure/building that has been built by the developer with no-objection certificate (NOC) from BPIA. “We will try to measure the building as per HC order possibly on Tuesday,” said a BMC officer.BPIA officials had alleged that in 2019, the developer had been granted top elevation of the building through an NOC for 87.37 metres but it was raised to 98.907 metres. The violation was detected on July 17 following an obstacle limitation survey (OLS).BPIA had sent copies of the notice (available with TOI) that was served on the developer on July 31, to the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA), urban development dept, commerce and transport dept, vice-chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority, commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, member (operations) of Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi, and regional executive director of east region, Airports Authority of India.Following the July 31 notice to the developer by BPIA, BMC had also served a notice seeking an explanation from it within three days. Since the developer moved court, there would be joint physical verification of the structure, officials said.
