Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing of a petition challenging the process for appointment of Odisha’s director general of police (DGP) to Sept 2 after seeking the state’s response on record before proceeding with the matter.The Odisha govt informed the bench that the state had already filed its counter affidavit opposing the plea. The state maintained that promotions of senior IPS officers are routine administrative matters and that it is within its powers to send a fresh proposal to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprising officers who meet the prescribed rank and eligibility criteria.The court, however, said the state’s response must be properly placed on the record and examined before the substantive hearing could begin.
