Bhubaneswar: Fresh COVID-19 detections in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur have prompted the state govt to intensify surveillance and preparedness measures, even as health officials maintained that there is no cause for panic and the situation remains under control.Health authorities have stepped up monitoring following reports of fresh infections, including a recently detected case in Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College and Hospital and sporadic cases reported from Bhubaneswar and other parts of the state. Officials said surveillance has been strengthened, particularly in districts bordering Andhra Pradesh, where fresh COVID-related cases and deaths have been reported.Director public health Rabindranath Mishra had earlier said testing facilities had been activated at district-level health institutions and chief district medical officers have been asked to enhance surveillance. “We have asked CDMOs to step up surveillance. Tests are being conducted at health facilities across the state,” he said, urging people not to panic. In Berhampur, a 54-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 was admitted to the isolation ward of MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Hospital authorities said her condition was stable and that she was being treated according to established protocols. In Bhubaneswar, a 50-year-old man tested positive and was admitted to a private hospital here.According to health department officials, the state is keeping a close watch on developments amid concerns over cross-border movement from Andhra Pradesh. Districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri have been asked to remain vigilant.Officials iterated that the state’s health infrastructure is prepared to deal with any rise in cases and that enhanced surveillance, testing and contact-tracing measures are already in place. “There is no need for panic, but people should remain alert and follow public health advisories,” said health authorities.
