Bhubaneswar: Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday countered BJD president and leader of opposition Naveen Patnaik over the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill.On Wednesday, Naveen had opposed the Bill, claiming it would adversely affect mineral-rich states such as Odisha and dilute their fiscal powers.Responding to it, Dharmendra accused the former CM of misleading the people of Odisha and said the Bill was a landmark reform aimed at strengthening India’s mining sector while protecting the interests of mineral-bearing states. “Politics has its own place, but hiding facts and misleading the people of Odisha is unacceptable,” Dharmendra said. The MP argued that the amendment seeks to bring uniformity in mining taxation across the country and prevent the burden of multiple levies on mining operations.
