Bhubaneswar: The extraordinary love story of Odisha-born artist Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia, who cycled thousands of kilometres across continents to reunite with his Swedish wife, Charlotte, has found global limelight again with “The Cycle of Love”, a documentary executive-produced by actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas and premiered in New York.The film revisits the remarkable journey of the Angul-born artist, whose decades-old tale of love, determination and adventure continues to inspire audiences worldwide. The acclaimed painter’s son Siddharth and daughter Emelie are also among the producers of the documentary.The red-carpet premiere was held at the Directors Guild of America Theatre in Manhattan. The film narrates the story of Mahanandia, who first met Charlotte in New Delhi in 1975 and fell in love with her. In 1977, he cycled from India to Europe to meet his love in Boras, Sweden.Chirag Benedict Lobo plays Mahanandia, while Mina Dale portrays his wife.Addressing Mahanandia at the New York premiere, Priyanka said, “Five months of pedalling, meeting people in different countries, learning friendship, language, humanity and hope on your journey to finding your loved one is incredible.”Addressing the audience, she said, “Today you all are sitting here because the producers of this movie are their children. The fascinating thing is that they have been together now for 50 years and their children are telling their love story.”“I feel so glad today after knowing that people want to know about our story. I feel that love is the root of humanity and people are conscious specially now when it is highly needed in the world,” said Mahanandia at the premiere.The audience gave the film a standing ovation at the premiere. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel, the documentary mesmerised the audience. “I feel proud for my parents who have shown the world that love is the route of humanity. The film portrays a wider meaning of the journey of love instead of focusing on my father’s cycling from India to Europe,” Siddharth said.The painter’s brother Prabhat Kumar Mahanandia, a retired OAS officer who lives in Bhubaneswar, said he felt happy to know that a world-class film had been made on his brother’s love story. “I remember my brother was sending letters to my father while he was on his way to Sweden. I knew that he had gone Delhi for some work. Later I found that he was cycling to Sweden,” he added.
