Veteran actor, mimicry artist and social worker Aasha Singh Jaiswal, best remembered for her work across films, television and live performances, has passed away in Mumbai. She died on August 22 at around 7:30 pm, her son Akkash Bharadwaj confirmed. Her last rites were performed the following morning at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle West.Remembering his mother, Akkash paid tribute to her on Instagram, describing her as an “Iron Lady” and appealing to admirers to keep her legacy alive by revisiting her work.“Wah ek karmath Loh-Mahila (Iron Lady) thi. Aap sabhi unki aatma ki sadgati evam shanti ke liye prarthna karen. Aur unke kaam ko social media par zarur dekhen aur yaad rakhen taaki unki aatma jahan bhi hon prasanchitt ho ki aap unka kaam ab bhi dekh aur yaad kar rahen hain (She was a dedicated ‘Iron Lady’. Please pray for the peace and salvation of her soul. Television audiences particularly remembered her as Kripi, the sister of Kripacharya, in B.R. Chopra’s landmark mythological series ‘Mahabharat’. She also appeared in films including ‘Baazigar’, ‘Bobby Jasoos’, ‘Deewangee’, ‘Aag’, ‘Kayda Kanoon’, ‘Aansu Bane Angaarey’ and ‘Ghar Bazar’, taking on a range of character roles.Beyond acting, Jaiswal carved out a distinct identity as one of the pioneering women in mimicry. She earned appreciation for her impressions of celebrated personalities, especially legendary actress Meena Kumari, and brought the art to audiences through live performances.Her contributions extended beyond entertainment as well. She founded Aasha Events and Films and remained associated with social work throughout her life.With her passing, the entertainment fraternity has lost an artist whose career stretched from iconic television to cinema, mimicry and live performance. For her family and admirers, her body of work now stands as a lasting reminder of an artist who remained deeply devoted to her craft until the end.
