For one Missouri Western football coach, Kansas City Chiefs training camp brought more than the usual excitement of having an NFL team on campus. It created a lasting family memory. Travis Kelce quietly turned an eight-year-old fan’s simple request into a moment the St. Louis family will remember long after the Chiefs leave St. Joseph. The heartwarming gesture came to light in a KCTV5 report published August 24, 2026.

Travis Kelce surprises young Chiefs fan at training camp

Every summer, the Kansas City Chiefs move their training camp to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. For Patrick St. Louis, an assistant head coach at the university, the arrangement already carries a personal connection. He grew up near Arrowhead Stadium and has supported the Chiefs for years.“I rooted for the Chiefs. I grew up not far from Arrowhead and always have been a Chiefs fan,” St. Louis said. His connection to the Chiefs also gave his sons a rare chance to see their favorite team up close. When St. Louis learned that the Chiefs tight ends would be using his room for meetings, he and his children decided to leave behind a small surprise.Eight-year-old Grey wrote a direct message for Kelce:“You’re my favorite tight end Kelce, please sign it,” Grey said.St. Louis placed a Kelce jersey, two photographs of his sons and Grey’s handwritten note inside the meeting room. The family did not know whether Kelce would notice them, much less sign them. That uncertainty made the wait even more exciting.

Travis Kelce’s autograph turns into a family memory

The family kept checking for an answer as the weeks passed. Kelce receives a huge number of autograph requests, so nobody wanted to assume that their small gesture would receive a response.“Every day, they’re like, ‘Is it going to happen? Are we going to have his signature?’” St. Louis’s wife, Chastity St. Louis, said. She tried to keep expectations realistic while the family waited.“Every day I had to just make sure that they were okay, so I’m like, ‘If he doesn’t sign it, it’s okay. We will try again next year,’” Chastity St. Louis said. Then, on the day Kansas City wrapped up training camp, the family finally received the news they had been hoping for. Kelce had signed the jersey and the photographs.“So they send me a picture of the jersey and the pics of the boys that we’d put up and he had signed it. I was just shocked,” St. Louis said.Grey was equally overwhelmed. “I was just shocked. I could barely talk and I was really happy,” Grey said. His brother Aiden had an even simpler reaction. “I would have to scream ‘eee!” St. Louis’s son Aiden said. For Chastity, the excitement spilled across the entire office. “I went around my whole office: ‘He signed it! He signed it,’” Chastity St. Louis said. The family now plans to return the kindness with friendship bracelets for Kelce. Ten-year-old Aiden said the idea came from seeing Kelce exchange bracelets himself.“Remember when Travis Kelce showed Taylor those friendship bracelets? We made them too,” 10-year old Aiden said. What began as a handwritten note from a young Chiefs fan ended as something far more meaningful: a personal reminder that a small gesture from an NFL star can become a treasured family memory.
