Rourkela: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, has secured 1,340 job offers and 364 six-month internship offers during its 2025-26 placement season, with the highest annual package touching Rs 1.31 crore for a BTech computer science and engineering (CSE) student.The highest package offered to an MTech student stood at Rs 46.38 lakh per annum.Apart from final placements, pre-final-year students secured a record 258 summer internships, the highest in the institute’s history. The internships are expected to translate into pre-placement offers (PPOs) during the upcoming recruitment season.Commenting on the placement performance, NIT Rourkela director K Umamaheshwar Rao said the results reflected the students’ capabilities and the institute’s focus on industry-relevant skills, innovation and problem-solving despite a challenging global job market.For BTech students, the highest package was Rs 1.31-cr per annum, followed by Rs 83.6 lakh per annum, both secured by CSE students. The programme recorded an average package of Rs 15.33 lakh per annum and a median package of Rs 12.5 lakh per annum.Among MTech students, the highest package was Rs 46.38 lakh per annum from CSE, followed by Rs 44 lakh per annum from electronics and communication engineering. The programme recorded an average package of Rs 11.9 lakh per annum and a median package of Rs 9 lakh per annum.The internship season was also encouraging, with the highest stipend reaching Rs 1.5 lakh per month. More than 83 students secured annual packages exceeding Rs 30 lakh, underscoring strong recruiter demand for NITR graduates.The institute reported a BTech placement rate of 95.47%. All registered candidates from biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, ceramic engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering secured placements. Six other programmes, including biotechnology, civil engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electronics and instrumentation engineering, industrial design, and metallurgical and materials engineering, recorded placement rates above 90%.A total of 374 recruiters participated in the placement drive, nearly half of them first-time recruiters. Software and IT services firms accounted for the largest share of recruiters, followed by companies from the manufacturing, banking and financial services, electronics and education sectors.Surajit Das, head of the career development centre (CDC), said the core sector accounted for 41.69% of total job offers. Software and IT contributed 17.79% of placements, followed by power and heavy engineering (13.77%), BFSI (11.52%), analytics and consulting (9.5%), electronics and semiconductor (8.4%), manufacturing (8.09%), oil and gas (7.86%) and education (7.23%).Key roles offered during the placement season included software engineer, software development engineer, hardware engineer, graduate trainee engineer, data analyst and business analyst, among others, he added.
