Rourkela: A day after the family members of the stranded Odisha engineer, whose wife and daughter went missing in the Nepal flash floods, met Bargarh subcollector Prasanna Kumar Pandey on Friday, and sought assistance in bringing him back, ministry of external affairs (MEA) contacted them on Saturday.“The MEA sought details of my brother Gunnam Jaykrishna (38). They assured us that efforts are being made to facilitate his return from Kathmandu,” said elder brother Dinesh, who lives in Sarala village.Jaykrishna, a mechanical engineer from Sarala village under Jampali gram panchayat in Bargarh, narrowly escaped the devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district after being directed to a higher location for work, but his wife Sai Bindu and two-year-old daughter Harixa remain missing after the settlement where they lived was swept away.Jaykrishna works at Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in Nepal. According to his family, he had asked his wife about a month ago to return to their native village with their daughter as a precaution against possible flooding during monsoon. However, she chose to stay back with him in Nepal.“She had also developed strong bonds with the local community and preferred to stay back. We are heartbroken,” Dinesh said, also alleging administrative lapses in issuing timely warnings before the disaster.“Whenever floods occur there, people are usually alerted well in advance. This time, according to my brother, there was no prior warning,” he claimed.Rescue teams have been searching for the missing residents, but there has been no trace of Sai Bindu and Harixa so far.“Our only wish now is that my brother returns home safely while the search for his wife and daughter continues,” Dinesh said.
