Bhubaneswar: River Subarnarekha in north Odisha was in spate on Tuesday and crossed the danger mark at Rajghat causing flash flood threat for the second time in a month. The river was flowing nearly half metre above the danger level by the afternoon and inundated several low-lying areas in it’s catchments in Balasore district. Authorities have warned that the flood may affect four blocks in Balasore district, including Bhograi, Baliapal, Basta and Jaleswar.A senior govt official at office of the special relief commissioner (SRC) said the district administration will tackle fresh situation. The rise in river level was caused following release of heavy flood water from Galudiha barrage in Jharkhand on the upstream. Engineer in-chief in water resources department, Dilip Kumar Rout, said the fresh flood in Subarnarekha is likely to continue for a day and affect some pockets in Balasore district.Rout said rise in Subarnarekha would continue for 10-12 hours and expected to decrease on Wednesday. He said the flood in Subarnarekha would be low compared to last time. Rout said there was no fresh flood threat in any other rivers in north Odisha now, even as they stood either on rise trend or steady. Moreover IMD forecasts decrease in rain activity in this pocket, he said.Official report said river Brahmani was on rise trend at Jenapur but was flowing below warning level by afternoon. Similarly river Baitarani was on rise at Anandpur and stood steady at Akhuapada by the afternoon. Budhabalanga also stood steady at NH-5 Govindpur but was flowing above warning level.IMD in its latest forecast said rainfall activity would decrease in the state at least till 7th of this month. This would be forecast of thunderstorm activity warning issued for some districts. On Wednesday, heavy rainfall warning would continue in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh districts.
