Balasore: A 17-year-old Plus II student was allegedly raped by her male friend, who is a juvenile, and another youth in Odisha’s Balasore district, police said on Thursday. Police have detained one of the two suspects.According to the police, the IInd year student had gone to Panchalingeswar tourist area on Tuesday with her 17-year-old male friend. In her complaint, she alleged that she was sexually assaulted by her friend and another youth who joined them during the outing.Police said the accused allegedly abandoned the girl on a roadside early on Wednesday and fled. A highway patrol team spotted her in a distressed condition, rescued her and informed her relatives. She was subsequently handed over to her family.Based on the girl’s complaint, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections of law. Since the survivor is a minor, authorities have withheld her identity in accordance with legal provisions.Investigators said the girl alleged that she had been persuaded by her friend, also a student, to visit the tourist spot. Police suspect she was drugged. Police have conducted the survivor’s medical examination and launched an investigation into the incident. A special police team has been formed to trace and apprehend the other accused. Further details have not been disclosed as the case involves minors.
