For nearly two decades, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were one of those celebrity couples people couldn’t help but root for. Their relationship had the kind of beginning that sounded almost too romantic to be real. They met in 2005 at the G’Day USA Gala, and Nicole has spoken about having an instant crush on Keith. He, apparently, took his time. It was four months before he finally called her. Then came Nicole’s 38th birthday. At around 5 in the morning, Keith showed up at her apartment with gardenias to wish her a happy birthday. For Nicole, that was the moment something clicked. She realized he might be the person she’d been waiting for. They got engaged in 2006 and married that same year. Over time, they built a family and welcomed two daughters. Like any long relationship, theirs went through its share of ups and downs, but for years they appeared committed to making it work. After 19 years of marriage, though, things changed.Their divorce was finalized in January 2026, bringing an end to a relationship that had lasted almost two decades. And while neither has publicly gone into detail about exactly what happened, reports suggested the two had gradually grown apart. Now, Nicole appears to be entering a very different chapter.
Nicole is dating again, but she’s not rushing anything
Following her split from Keith, Nicole has reportedly started seeing businessman Michael Reinstein. According to a source cited by Us Weekly, the relationship is casual for now, and Nicole is simply enjoying herself. The two were reportedly introduced through mutual friends, and Nicole has also been going on other dates. In other words, she doesn’t seem to be treating this new relationship as a replacement for her old one.And perhaps that’s the biggest change. After spending so many years married, Nicole appears to be giving herself room to figure out what she wants next. Friends have reportedly been encouraging her to meet people, while those close to her say she’s in a happier and more optimistic place. Her daughters also seem to be an important part of how she’s approaching this new stage of her life.
But what about Keith?
Whatever happened between Nicole and Keith, it doesn’t appear that the two have simply erased each other from their lives. They’re still parents together. They’re still connected through their daughters. And after 19 years of marriage, there’s obviously a lot of history between them that doesn’t disappear just because the relationship ends.A source recently suggested that the dust has settled between the former couple and that they still have respect for one another.Keith hasn’t publicly explained the reasons behind their divorce. But in August 2026, a video of him becoming emotional while introducing his new song We Go Back caught people’s attention. The song’s themes of heartbreak and watching someone you once loved move forward inevitably led to speculation about Nicole.Still, neither the song nor Keith’s emotions can tell us what actually happened inside their marriage.Nicole, meanwhile, has been much clearer about where she stands: she doesn’t want to turn her family’s private life into a public story.Speaking to Variety in March 2026, she said she was focused on what was good in her life and grateful for her family. She also made it clear that, despite everything, she still sees them as a family. And maybe that’s the most telling part of where Nicole and Keith are today.Their marriage may be over, but their relationship as parents isn’t. Whatever hurt or disappointment came with their separation, they’re still connected by the life they built together.Sometimes a relationship doesn’t end with two people becoming strangers. Sometimes it simply becomes something different. For Nicole, that seems to mean looking ahead, dating again and figuring out who she is outside of a nearly 20-year marriage. For Keith, it may mean processing the same ending in his own way.Neither path has to cancel out the years they shared. What do you think? Can two people move on romantically while still maintaining a respectful relationship with each other as family?
