Kendrapada: A 23-year-old man allegedly beat his 65-year-old father to death following a quarrel at Chandramu village under Binjharpur police station in Jajpur district.The victim, identified as Kishor Mallick, succumbed to his injuries at home on Friday night, nearly 15 days after he was allegedly assaulted by his son, Tapan Mallick.Police said the incident occurred on Aug 19 night, when Kishor allegedly rebuked Tapan for returning home in an inebriated state. In a fit of rage, Tapan allegedly attacked his father with a wooden plank. Kishor sustained serious head injuries and fractured ribs and was rushed to a hospital in Jajpur for treatment.He was discharged from hospital on Sept 3 but died at his home the following night.Police had arrested Tapan on Aug 20 and booked him under Section 109 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder). Following Kishor’s death, the charges against Tapan were altered to murder under Section 103 of the BNS, said IIC of Binjharpur police station, Parbati Mallick.Police seized the body and sent it to District Govt Hospital in Jajpur on Saturday for post-mortem.
