Koraput: Odisha vigilance on Thursday caught a senior clerk of the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court at Mathili in Malkangiri district red-handed, while allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 from a complainant for providing relief in two non-bailable warrant cases.The accused, Achyut Kumar Pradhan, senior clerk attached to the JMFC court, Mathili, allegedly demanded the bribe in connection with two cases in which NBWs had been issued against the complainant’s cousin.Vigilance officials said the complainant, unable to meet Pradhan’s demand, approached the anti-corruption agency. Acting on the complaint, vigilance officials laid a trap on Thursday and apprehended Pradhan while he was allegedly accepting the bribe.“The accused was caught while taking the demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe amount was recovered from his possession and seized,” a vigilance official said.Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched at Pradhan’s residential premises at different locations as part of an investigation into his assets and sources of income, officials said.The searches are aimed at ascertaining whether the accused has amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said.“Investigation is in progress. Further details will be known after completion of the searches and scrutiny of relevant documents,” said the official.
