Kendrapada: A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his 34-year-old wife at Bahabalapur village under Jajpur Sadar police station in Jajpur district. The accused was identified as Gaynaranjan Pahi and deceased as Subhashree Pahi. Police sources said father of the deceased lodged an FIR at Jajpur Sadar police station on Thursday alleging that his daughter had been subjected to torture by her husband over dowry-related issues.Police said Subhashree was allegedly killed by her husband on Wednesday night. Her body was subsequently found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the house allegedly in an attempt to make the incident appear to be a case of suicide. The body reportedly bore several injury marks, with blood oozing from her nose and other parts of the body. The couple married in 2014 and has a four-year-old son.“Acting on the FIR, we arrested the husband under Sections 103 (murder) and 85 (cruelty inflicted on a woman by her husband or his relatives) of the BNS and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act,” said IIC of Jajpur Sadar police station Chinmayee Behera. The accused was produced in a Jajpur court on Friday. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him in judicial custody, police said.
