Bhubaneswar: City police arrested a senior Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer in the early hours of Friday on charges of raping a junior colleague at her residence.The woman, in her 30s, lodged a police complaint after the 56-year-old officer allegedly created a ruckus at her residence around 2am. “We have arrested the accused, who is an additional secretary in a govt department, after preliminary investigation. The survivor’s statement has been recorded, and she has undergone a medical examination,” said the inspector in charge of the local police station.Police said the accused has been booked under the charges of rape, attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, obscene conduct and criminal intimidation.The officer, however, declined to comment, even as his lawyer claimed that he was framed.In her complaint, the woman alleged that the officer had been harassing her for months. On Friday, he entered her residence around 2am and sexually assaulted her despite her resistance, she alleged. When she tried to raise an alarm, he allegedly attacked and threatened her with dire consequences if she approached the police.She, however, called the police control room at 112, after which a team reached her residence and took her to safety. The man was brought to the police station for questioning. “During interrogation, the accused claimed that the woman had been blackmailing him after they developed a relationship and dismissed the allegations as baseless. However, we found prima facie evidence against him and arrested him,” a police officer said.His department did not issue any official statement on the arrest. An official said the matter was personal and the department had no role in it. “The department does not endorse any offence committed by anyone. Let the police investigation establish the truth,” he said.
