Bhubaneswar: RPF in East Coast Railway zone registered 75 cases linked to narcotics under Operation NARCOS between Jan and Aug 2026. During the period, officials seized 1,079.6 kg of ganja and 60 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup worth Rs 3.6 crore. The force arrested 92 people for suspected role in drug trafficking.The action is part of RPF’s intensified efforts to curb movement of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through the railway network, in support of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign.To strengthen detection capabilities, East Coast Railway has added 18 new pups to its dog squad, including 15 trained for narcotics detection. With this, the canine unit’s strength has increased to 33. Among them, 20 dogs will be assigned specifically to narcotics-related checks at railway stations, trains, platforms, parcel offices, luggage zones and other sensitive points.The newly added pups are scheduled to begin specialised training from Oct 25, 2026, and are likely to be ready for deployment by March 2027.The ECoR RPF is also relying on CCTV monitoring, baggage scanners, drones and advanced analytics. It is working in coordination with the Govt Railway Police, state police and other enforcement agencies for intelligence sharing and joint action.
