Balasore: A restaurant near DIC Square in Balasore town was gutted in a fire following an alleged LPG cylinder blast on Monday morning. A nearby shop and a couple of two-wheelers were also damaged in the blast.No casualty has been reported in the incident so far. However, the restaurant suffered extensive damage, with a large quantity of equipment and other materials reportedly destroyed in the blaze.“Fire broke out at around 10.30 am after an LPG cylinder inside the restaurant reportedly exploded. The flames rapidly engulfed the restaurant, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky,” a police officer said.On being informed, three fire service teams from Balasore rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control after nearly two hours.The extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. But preliminary estimates suggest that items worth lakhs may have been destroyed in the fire. The cause of the cylinder explosion is yet to be ascertained.
