Rourkela: Odisha vigilance on Tuesday unearthed 30 plots, two multi-storey buildings, a market complex, a godown and nearly Rs 3 lakh in cash during simultaneous raids on properties linked to a panchayat executive officer (PEO) in Bargarh district in connection with a disproportionate assets case.Searches were conducted against Kartikeswar Behera, PEO of Katabhal gram panchayat and in-charge PEO of Firingimal and Gourenmunda gram panchayats under Gaisilet block, following allegations that he possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.A vigilance team comprising five DSPs, eight inspectors, two ASIs and other personnel carried out searches at six locations in Bargarh district against warrants issued by the special judge, vigilance, Bargarh.According to vigilance officials, a double-storeyed residential building measuring about 4,800 sq ft was traced at Kandagada near Gaisilet. A four-storeyed building under construction was also found at Gaisilet.The agency further detected a market complex of around 2,400 sq ft and a godown measuring about 1,500 sq ft at Kandagada. During the searches, officials also identified 30 plots in and around Gaisilet and Kandagada. Cash amounting to Rs 2.98 lakh was seized from the premises. Details of bank deposits, investments and other financial assets are being verified.Officials said the vigilance technical wing has been tasked with measuring and assessing value of the buildings, land parcels, market complex and godown to ascertain the total value of the assets.Behera, 56, joined govt service in July 1994 as secretary of Gaisilet gram panchayat at a monthly salary of Rs 500. He was promoted to the post of village-level worker in 2009, and the post was redesignated as PEO in 2012. He has been serving in Bargarh district for over three decades and is currently drawing a monthly salary of Rs 52,320.Searches were underway till the filing of the report, and vigilance officials said further details would emerge after completion of the valuation and verification process.
