Surendra Singh Choudhry, better known as Bittu Tabahi, has taken his cleanup mission from Delhi to other parts of the NCR.After collecting 585 kg of waste from a stretch of the Yamuna in Delhi, Bittu and his team moved to Gurugram’s Khedki Daula. This time, they removed 2,435 kg of waste from the area.The three-day #CleanWithBittu drive will now wrap up in Noida, with Yuva Shakti Ghat in Sector 94 announced as the final stop.
‘Plastic is extremely harmful for cows’
A video shared by Bittu on Instagram shows him arriving at Khedki Daula with his team and getting straight to work.The area was littered with plastic and other waste. Bittu pointed out that the problem isn’t just about how dirty the stretch looks. Cows in the area can end up eating the plastic mixed in with the garbage.He said the team wanted to clean the entire stretch and then got to work clearing the waste.The video shows volunteers picking up the litter and clearing the area. By the end of the drive, the difference is clearly visible, with the pavements looking considerably cleaner.According to Bittu’s post, the team removed 2,435 kg of waste during the Gurugram cleanup. He also thanked those who turned up to support the drive.
Noida is the final stop
Sharing an update about the three-day campaign, Bittu said the #CleanWithBittu journey began on Sunday, World Cleanup Day.“Jaisa ki aap dekh sakte hain, humne apni #CleanWithBittu cleanup journey Sunday, World Cleanup Day se shuru ki thi,” he wrote.He added that the team had already completed cleanups in Delhi and Gurugram and would finish the drive in Noida.The final cleanup was announced for Yuva Shakti Ghat in Sector 94, Noida, from 6 am onwards. Bittu also urged people to join the team and help clean the Yamuna riverfront.
From Delhi to Gurugram, and now Noida
The NCR drive follows Bittu’s earlier cleanup efforts along the Yamuna. On September 20, his team collected 585 kg of waste from Delhi in the first leg of the campaign.He had also previously spent around 4.5 hours cleaning the Yamuna, removing 545 kg of waste in a drive that later gained attention online.But his cleanup work started well before the NCR campaign.Bittu and his team first made headlines after taking on the heavily polluted Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh. He later led a group of 100 people in a cleanup of Bengaluru’s Turahalli Forest.His work on the Ajnar River even caught the attention of Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of Dutch environmental organisation The Ocean Cleanup, who offered him a job.Now, with Noida as the final stop, Bittu’s latest three-city drive is bringing thousands of kilograms of collected waste out of public spaces across the NCR.
