Moving abroad can change your life in ways you do not always expect. The excitement of a major move can be strong at first, but over time, even a completely new environment can become familiar. That shift can leave people wondering what they want to look forward to next.An Indian tech professional recently opened up about that feeling in an Instagram video, sharing how her outlook has changed after spending two years in the United States.
‘I remember being so excited’
Ayushi Srivastava, a software engineer at Microsoft and a BITS Pilani graduate, moved to the US at the age of 25.Looking back at the time before her move, she recalled, “I remember being so excited”.Since then, she has travelled extensively across the country. In her video, she showed a waterfront view while talking about how her reaction to such sights has changed.“Now that I have travelled a lot in this country, this is my view right now. I am feeling used to it.”

Mujhe ye bhi normal lag raha hai (I have seen many tall buildings. I have experienced clean air, clean water, snow, summer, autumn. I have seen it all. Now it all looks normal to me),” she explained. Her comments focused on how repeated exposure had changed her response to these experiences.
‘I am kinda losing it’
She also reflected on the excitement she had associated with moving abroad.“I am taking this for granted. Wo jo excitement tha na jab move karna tha, like I will see something so new, I am kinda losing it,” she said. That realisation has led her to think about her next goal.“I don’t know what my driving force is now. I’ll have to find a new goal. What to do?” she added.
Social media users react
The video prompted several responses from viewers, who offered different interpretations of what she described. One commenter referred to it as “hedonic adaptation” and said, “this is normal for the human mind.”Another wrote, “That is called realizing that crows are black everywhere and that materialistic things are nothing.”One viewer connected the experience with achieving goals that once provided motivation.“Probably the toughest phase of life.. You’ve reached a point where all the expectations of people that drove you, are achieved. Suddenly there is a void, “what now?” said one viewer.Another suggested, “Visit indian for few days and you will start loving USA again.”Disclaimer: This article is based on information shared by the individual on social media.
