Berhampur: An Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team and doctors on Thursday reached 10 families marooned in Brahmapalli, Markandeswar Vihar, under Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) limits after three days of incessant rain.They distributed relief materials and medicines to the stranded residents and shifted a pregnant woman to City Hospital after rescuing her in a power boat, said BeMC deputy commissioner Ashirbad Parida. There has been waist-deep water in the locality due to the heavy rain.“We have been living in darkness and struggling without adequate food and other essentials. Communication had also become difficult as mobile phone batteries ran low,” said Simanchal Panda, a local resident.Apart from Markandeswar Vihar, residents of Nua Sahi in Ankuli were also affected by waterlogging. Civic authorities said efforts are on to drain out the stagnant water. BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalei said the water levels are receding in several affected localities, including Ankuli and Brahmapalli. She said a road would soon be built to improve connectivity to Markandeswar Vihar.
