Bhubaneswar: More than 13 lakh educated unemployed people are currently registered in Odisha, the state govt informed the assembly on Friday.Replying to a question, skill development and technical education minister Sampad Chandra Swain said that 13,07,411 jobseekers were registered on the National Career Service (NCS) portal in the state as of Aug 31, 2026.According to the minister’s written reply, the registered unemployed comprise 8,79,411 men and 4,28,000 women. The figures are based on data available in the live register maintained through employment exchanges and the NCS platform, he said.The minister, however, clarified that registration on the NCS portal is voluntary and the data reflects only those who have enrolled on the employment database.Highlighting steps taken to improve employability and create job opportunities, Swain said the state govt is implementing programmes such as the Placement-linked Training Programme and Nua-Odisha. Under these initiatives, unemployed youths are being provided skill-development training.The assembly was also informed that the govt is organising recruitment fairs at district and state levels to facilitate placements and connect employers with prospective candidates.
