Koraput: A transmission tower collapsed and fell on the train track, and a 132-kV power transmission line was damaged at Maliguda in Koraput district in the heavy rain and strong wind on Friday morning, disrupting power supply to the railways. “Train communication between Jeypore and Koraput has been affected. The issue will be sorted soon,” said Tapan Subudhi, superintending engineer, TPSODL, Jeypore. The transmission tower was managed by OPTCL.Koraput district recorded an average rainfall of 189.24 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday. According to the district rainfall report, Borigumma recorded the highest rainfall at 307.8 mm, followed by Kotpad at 272 mm, Semiliguda at 267 mm and Jeypore at 258.2 mm. Koraput town received 197 mm of rainfall during the period.Laxmipur recorded 197.2 mm, while Nandapur received 195 mm and Boipariguda 185 mm. Lamtaput and Kundra recorded 158.7 mm and 150.2 mm, respectively. Pottangi received 88.4 mm, while Dasmantpur recorded 89 mm. The district received a cumulative 2,649.3 mm of rainfall across the 14 blocks during the 24-hour period, highlighting the intensity of the weather system over Koraput.The road blockade caused by a landslide at Sunki Ghat was cleared on Friday evening after traffic remained disrupted for several hours.
