Koraput/Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Ganjam, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts. He also visited inundated pockets in Kotpad — among the worst-hit blocks of Koraput district — where he met affected families and reviewed relief measures.Majhi visited Pirinji and Chandili villages before inspecting the relief shelter set up at the local high school. He interacted with the families housed there, inquired about their immediate needs and assessed arrangements for cooked food, drinking water, baby food and medicines. “The govt stands with every flood-affected person in Koraput district. Necessary assistance will be provided as per the rules after assessment of the damage,” the chief minister said.Later, Majhi chaired a review meeting at Jeypore on the situation in Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts. The meeting also reviewed the situation at Kalinga Ghat on Kandhamal-Ganjam border, where traffic has been suspended following a landslide. Works department secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh visited the ghat and assessed the steps needed to restore road connectivity.Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari said families staying in relief shelters would be provided food, ration, clothes and other essential supplies for 15 days. “The govt was considering advance assistance to flood-hit people as per existing norms. Collectors of the affected districts will submit their reports, after which steps will be taken to provide compensation and other assistance on a priority basis,” Pujari said.Officials were directed to drain stagnant water from agricultural fields. A technical team will assess waterlogging and recommend measures to help farmers resume cultivation after the water recedes, the minister said.Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in several parts of south Odisha, even as the flood situation is improving. Water resources engineer-in-chief Dillip Rout said water levels in Indravati, Kolab, Balimela, Rushikulya and Vamsadhara rivers had receded and were flowing below the danger mark.Nabarangpur had reported widespread waterlogging across several gram panchayats, while Malkangiri witnessed rising water levels in rivers and reservoirs.Power and communication infrastructure have been affected in parts of Koraput.
