Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report (ATR) from Khurda district administration and police over the alleged use of high-decibel DJ sound systems during a recent Ganesh Puja immersion procession in Jatni that reportedly led to the death of one person. A slab of a building collapsed on spectators due to the alleged vibration from DJ sound leading to the death.Acting on a complaint filed by Manoj Jena, chairperson of Human Rights Front India, the commission took cognisance of the matter and observed on Tuesday that the allegations point to possible human rights violations and negligence by public authorities.The NHRC said the complaint raises concerns over the alleged violation of the right to life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. It has directed the district magistrate and superintendent of police, Khurda, to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report within two weeks.According to the complaint, high-decibel DJ systems were allowed to operate during the immersion procession despite existing restrictions and regulations governing noise pollution. The complaint further alleged administrative lapses in enforcing the rules and hinted at possible political influence behind the permission granted for such activities.The complainant has demanded strict legal action against officials, organisers and DJ operators found responsible for the incident. He has also sought compensation for the family of the deceased and proper medical treatment for those injured.
