This one appears polite in the moment, but basically gives away your entire negotiating position for nothing. Saying you’re flexible means you haven’t done your homework or worse, you’re going to take whatever number they throw at you without pushing back. Employers aren’t going to volunteer their highest budget out of goodwill, so leaving the number entirely up to them almost always works against you. Instead, come in with a researched range and say something like, “Based on my experience and the market rate for this role, I’m looking at a range of X to Y.”
