Keonjhar man beaten to death after family dispute, brother-in-law held

Keonjhar: A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death following a family dispute at Burusahi in Uliburu village under Barbil police station limits of Keonjhar district. Police arrested the accused, identified as the victim’s brother-in-law, on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Banamali Munda, husband of Sukamati. The accused, Ajay Tiria (20), is a resident of Kandra village under Joda police station limits.Police said Banamali had allegedly been assaulting his wife for some time. Sukamati reportedly informed her family about the alleged abuse on Tuesday, prompting her brother Ajay to visit Uliburu village on Friday to discuss the issue with Banamali.Police said an argument broke out between the two on Friday afternoon, during which Ajay allegedly assaulted Banamali. The victim collapsed after sustaining injuries. Instead of immediately hospitaling him, family members allegedly kept him at home in an unconscious state. He died later that night.On receiving information on Saturday morning, a team from Barbil police station reached the village, seized the body and launched an investigation. The body was later sent to Barbil community health centre for post-mortem. Barbil sub-divisional police officer Devendra Pingua said, “Such incident happened following a domestic violation. The accused is arrested and forwarded to court today.” Police said further investigation is underway.
