Odisha CM announces cash rewards for Indian women’s hockey team
Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi is congratulating to Indian Men’s Hockey team member Amit Rohidas over phone on Saturday after Men’s Hockey team became champion in Asian Games 2026

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced cash rewards for Indian Women’s Hockey Team following their gold medal win at the Asian Games 2026. Majhi announced Rs 11 lakh each for the players and Rs 5.5 lakh each for the support staff in recognition of the team’s historic achievement.Congratulating the team, chief minister said their outstanding performance, determination and commitment had brought immense pride to the nation. “The Odisha Government stands firmly with Indian hockey and remains committed to supporting and nurturing sporting excellence,” Majhi said in a statement.India defeated world no 4 China 1-0 in the final at Nagoya, Japan, on Friday to win Asian Games gold. This was the women’s team’s second Asian Games title and their first since 1982. The victory also earned India direct qualification for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.Odisha is the official sponsor of the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams until 2036. Meanwhile, Indian Men’s Hockey team also became champion at Asian Games 2026 on Saturday. Majhi congratulated the team and spoke to Odia players Amit Rohidas and Shilanand Lakra, members of the champion team.“Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Men’s Hockey Team on winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026 with a commanding 5-1 victory over Malaysia. Their skill, determination and fighting spirit have brought immense pride to the nation. A proud moment for Indian hockey and for every Indian,” he added.
