Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has officially reclaimed the title of the highest-grossing film of all time! The film on Sunday, following its theatrical re-release as ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’, surpassed James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, thus officially reclaiming the box office crown.

As per box office reports, the film’s total haul now stands at approximately USD 2.9255 billion worldwide, edging past ‘Avatar’, which has a lifetime global total of around USD 2.9237 billion. The Marvel blockbuster’s latest boost came from ‘Endgame: Encore’, which added approximately USD 126 million to its worldwide haul. After a strong opening re-release, earning approximately USD 86 million worldwide, the film, however, slipped to seventh place at the domestic box office in its second weekend, earning USD 4.4 million in North America and USD 14.4 million internationally.Despite the drop, the additional earnings were enough for ‘Endgame’ to narrowly overtake ‘Avatar’ and reclaim the global box office crown.

‘Endgame’ and ‘Avatar’ continue to trade places

The ‘Endgame Encore’ re-release was designed in part to reignite interest and connect the film to the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
