Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday inaugurated the revamped Kalinga Studio and reopened Odisha’s premier film production hub after a Rs 164-crore transformation aimed at reviving Odia cinema and creating a modern ecosystem for filmmaking in the state. The redeveloped studio, equipped with advanced production infrastructure and digital-age facilities, will strengthen Odisha’s film ecosystem and reduce filmmakers’ dependence on studios outside the state for technical and post-production requirements, official sources said.Alongside the studio, Majhi inaugurated a dedicated archive and museum established on Kalinga Studio premises to preserve Odisha’s cinematic heritage. The facility will house old films, posters, photographs and archival documents related to the state’s film history.Addressing the gathering, he said the upgraded studio would serve as a one-stop destination for filmmakers by offering world-class facilities for production and post-production work. “Odia filmmakers will no longer have to look to other states for technical work. Many state-of-the-art facilities have been created here and more will be added in the coming days,” he said.Developed as a self-sufficient film production complex, the studio now features indoor shooting floors, a snow house, chroma floor, tech zone, sound recording and dubbing facilities, editing suites and post-production infrastructure. The project was undertaken to modernise the studio in line with changing industry requirements and advances in digital filmmaking technology. He also expressed optimism about the state’s young creative talent, saying the new facility would provide opportunities for aspiring actors, directors, cinematographers, animators, sound designers and digital content creators. He urged filmmakers to draw inspiration from Odisha’s folklore, history and cultural traditions to create original content.Industries, skill development and technical education minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the revamped Kalinga Studio has been developed as a modern film studio complex with facilities catering to every stage of filmmaking, from production to post-production.
