Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday waived ground rent for the committees organising Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Ravana Podi, Bhasani Utsav and related cultural programmes in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area, in view of the social and cultural significance of the festivals and enthusiasm of the public.The waiver will be applicable from Oct 17 to Nov 18.The puja committees usually pay between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000 as ground rent.The chief minister also urged the puja committees to organise the celebrations in a peaceful, orderly and environmentally friendly manner.Bhubaneswar is holding more than 250 Durga Pujas this year. Commissionerate police are getting ready for the festive season, keeping an eye on heavy crowd ahead of the Puja through CCTV cameras.
