Bhubaneswar: More than 33,500 voters, including 1,448 electors, who were left out during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, were enrolled in Odisha during a three-day special registration drive conducted from Oct 7 to 9.The campaign, launched on the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI) amid a row over exclusion of names in SIR, aimed to facilitate the enrolment of eligible citizens, particularly left-out electors and first-time voters who attained the age of 18 on Oct 1.Deputy chief electoral officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu said over 26,000 special camps were organised across the state during the drive. BLOs also conducted door-to-door visits in many cases. “More than 1,400 Form 6 applications received during the campaign were from left-out electors,” he said. Form 6 is used for inclusion of names in the electoral roll.Official sources said most of the 1,448 left-out voters could not be included during the SIR process as they were not present at their registered polling booths at the time of verification. Sahu said voter enrolment would continue throughout the month even after the conclusion of the special drive. “Eligible citizens whose names are missing from the electoral roll can submit Form 6 through booth-level officers for inclusion,” he said. The CEO’s office has urged voters to verify their names in the electoral rolls and apply for inclusion if required. Citizens who turned 18 years of age on or before Oct 1, 2026, are also eligible to register as voters. The information collected by BLOs is being scrutinised by electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) and BLOs before eligible applicants are added to the voter list.According to the CEO’s office, the campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from young electors, with a large number of first-time voters applying for enrolment. Booth-level agents (BLAs) of various political parties also assisted in voter awareness and registration efforts at the grassroots level. The drive assumes significance as more than 17 lakh names were deleted during Odisha’s SIR exercise. The final electoral roll published on Sept 21 pegged the state’s electorate at 3.16 crore. The deletions included around two lakh absent electors, 8.8 lakh voters who had permanently shifted, 8.32 lakh deceased voters, 1.58 lakh duplicate entries and nearly 14,000 cases involving age-related discrepancies.
